Join us for an afternoon of brainstorming to explore possible arts and culture based solutions that use technology to connect women and girls to the creative economy.

The Challenge: “How can women and girls of all socioeconomic backgrounds use technology to fully participate and prosper in the economy?”

2112 is committed to participating in solving these global challenges through community building, partnerships, and innovation. That’s why we’d love for those with a passion for problem solving, diversity and inclusion in tech and beyond, to join us for a brainstorming session event where we will delve into this issue, and compose our own solution. Over the course of the afternoon, we will engage in an expertly guided discussion facilitated by Demetrio P. Cardona-Maguigad, Partner, Strategic Design Director at LimeRed Studio with the intention to build an art and culture-based solution to submit to MIT’s SOLVE Challenge.

Solve is an MIT offshoot that sets out to generate dialogue and tackle issues relating to technological innovation.

About Demetrio Cardona-Maguigad
I strive to create experiences that guide people through the complexities of today's world, so that they can discover new connections, meaning, and possibilities.

I am a strategist and educator in the areas of communication, design, and digital technologies.

As the director of design strategy at LimeRed Studio, I lead collaborative and process-driven methods between clients and design teams to uncover insights and align business goals toward innovative design solutions.

I spend time each month mentoring and coaching startups and social entrepreneurs at various innovation and incubators spaces including 1871 and 2112 in Chicago, advocating for human-centered design approaches toward problem solving and business success.

As an adjunct faculty member in the Communication & Media Innovation Department at Columbia College Chicago, I instruct and guide the next generation of communication experts on social media and digital strategies while also providing support for curriculum research and design.

I am a passionate creator and producer with a focus on cultural diversity, social justice, and community development. I've directed and produced award winning video documentaries, developed and designed interactive community programs, and have written and designed sound scores for several community theater projects in Chicago.

I am the former host and executive producer for Chicago is the World, a weekly on-air radio program curating and featuring music, voices and stories from around the globe.

I am also proud to serve as a member of the board of directors at the Chicago Cultural Alliance - a consortium of Chicago-area ethnic museums, cultural centers and historical societies promoting cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration.

About 2112:

2112 is Chicago’s first business incubator focused on the development of entrepreneurs in music, film/video and creative industry-focused technologies.

Through community, educational opportunities and access to capital, 2112 creates a truly fertile ground for the professional development and acceleration of its members.
