The Worst Business Model in the World: A New Kind of Guide for a New Kind of Entrepreneur

There’s never been a better time to be an entrepreneur. The question is, what kind of entrepreneur will you be? Writer, marketer and entrepreneur Danny Schuman has interviewed 100’s of entrepreneurs who he calls UDOTs: “Us Doing Our Thing.” It describes the massive and constantly growing group of people who are out on their own, doing what they love and what they’re good at, and could use some tools and strategies to build a business around that passion and expertise. He combined his experience building a 10-year- old marketing consultancy with those interviews to write his new book, The Worst Business Model in the World: A New Kind of Guide for a New Kind of Entrepreneur.

The backbone of The Worst Business Model in the World is a strong belief that entrepreneurship should start with creating and solving. Those are the things that lead to a more informed and more satisfied life, which ultimately lead to a more productive and profitable life.

Seth Godin did a great job of summing up this thinking in a recent blog post: “You don't apply. You don't get a salary. No one picks you. Bragging about how much money you've raised or what your valuation is a form of job thinking. Entrepreneurship is a chance to trade a solution to someone who has a problem that needs solving. Solve more problems, solve bigger problems, solve problems more widely and you're an entrepreneur. It's tempting to industrialize this work, to make it something with rules and bosses and processes. But that's not the heart of it. The work is to solve problems in a way that you're proud of.”
