Casey is a member of Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP’s Entertainment and Media Law Practice Group. Casey’s practice encompasses a broad range of transactions in the entertainment industry, with an emphasis on television and film matters. She is able to act as production counsel on television programs and films and advise clients from development through distribution, including matters pertaining to clearance, content licensing, show and script review, copyright and trademarks, fair use, rights of publicity and privacy, standards and practices, guild issues and defamation. She is able to counsel clients in the preparation, analysis and negotiation of various agreements, including distribution, production and co-production services, work-for-hire, non-disclosure, venue/location, license, sponsorship, trade-out, master service, technology, assignment, talent and option agreements, sweepstakes rules and releases. Prior to joining the firm, Casey worked as an attorney for Harpo Productions, Inc. At Harpo, she provided legal counsel on a variety of television shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Dr. Oz Show, The Nate Berkus Show, Iyanla, Fix My Life, Oprah’s Lifeclass and for the documentary series, Belief. Casey is also passionate about contributing her talents to positively affect social change. She participated in the creation of Good Pitch Chicago, a non-profit organization. She also taught a course on film and television production law at DePaul University College of Law.
