You’ve released a few songs, maybe even an EP or two, but you haven’t played a show in ages. Getting that first gig or even lining up the next one can feel daunting. Join us in candid conversation from industry-expert panelists David Chavez, Kristen Mitchell, and John Ugolini, followed by a Q&A, about how an emerging artist can book a show, manage the intricacies of negotiation, and begin their career as a performer.

David Chavez is the Festival and Series Curator & Producer for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and the Founder and Artistic Director of the Sound Culture Center for the Global Arts. Working in the industry for over 15 years, David has organized, produced, and presented artists from all over the world in chicago and continues to be a curator of international music and festivals such as Taste of Chicago, Millennium Park Music Series, Chicago World Music Festival, and Chicago House Music Festival. Most recently, David is a judge in the music category for the 3Arts Awards.

Kristen Mitchell is the Manager, Music Operations and Services at the 300-capacity music venue Evanston SPACE and summer-long music festival Out of SPACE and live session host at Audiotree. A highly experienced manager, host, writer, and designer, Kristen has been featured in The EveryGirl on her prowess in the music industry and continues to manage shows nearly every night of the week with clientele such as Matt Nathanson, Dinosaur Jr., Brett Dennen, John Moreland, and more.

John Ugolini is the founder, owner, and talent buyer of Kickstand Productions, the talent buying office for Subterranean, Beat Kitchen, Wicker Park Fest, Durty Nellies, Do Division, and Wicker Park’s Green Music Fest and various other venues through Illinois and the Chicagoland area.
