A full retrospective of the band’s handmade, custom scenery spanning 18 albums and 12 tours
This event has ended.
Chicago’s own Pigface, a band with 300+ members and no rules is celebrating its 27th anniversary and a North American tour even they didn't see coming. In celebration, founding member Martin Atkins, 2112 Inc. and Millikin University are collaborating on PIGFACE27, a full retrospective of the band’s handmade, custom scenery spanning 18 albums and 12 tours. You could call PIGFACE27 the chaotic post-punk industrial icing on a very baked cake.
The band’s huge, iconic stage scenery, designed with repurposing in mind, breaks down into easy-to-carry pieces. Perhaps the Dot Screened Madonnas (Preaching to the Perverted stage scenery, 2001) illustrate this best: designed to be cut up and given away or sold after the tour, they exemplify a balance between beauty and purpose, creativity and commerce. The Eye piece (Free for All stage scenery, 2005) is 20 feet high and also available as a limited edition blotter acid paper print. The Fook Baby Backdrop from 1992, never before displayed, showcases the latex work of extreme artist Tim Gore.
In addition to the large-scale art, PIGFACE27 will also feature other media: A 12” x 16” sculpture incorporated in the booklet for Pigface’s 1994 album, Notes from Thee Underground (which inspired a stage set covered in dot-screened Newcastle Brown Ale bottle caps), plus more!!
The Invisible Records and Pigface booth will be set up and the glow-in-the-dark posters will be available for reasonable donations to Darkest Before Dawn - the cause supported by Coldwaves
Street parking is free - Enter through the 2112 door and check-in at the front desk. You'll then be directed to the exhibit hall!
