3D Audio for Visually Immersive Environments
Presented by ARUP

When it comes to immersive environments, visuals are only half of the story. The recent explosion of VR technology has brought renewed interest in 3D spatial audio, along with challenges that are quite different from typical formats like stereo. Arup has over a decade of experience with 3D audio in our SoundLab and through collaboration on projects of all scales. This presentation will cover the key reasons to include immersive audio in your projects, and will provide an overview of the theoretical and practical considerations involved. Topics include:

Overview of spatial hearing – sound in space, perception and realism
Basic approaches to spatial audio – shared vs. individual listening environments
Practical implementation – available platforms and technology
Tips and tricks – what to do and what not to do
Project examples
